"Why Are You the Best Person for the Job?"
As a UX Researcher, I am curious. When I see users struggling, I want to know why so that I can help them. By finding out why, I can help my stakeholders achieve their goals and the UX team by identifying problems. I can also tell those same people what the users loved! I do love to help people. I love to learn. I am playing with a tool that can be used to estimate time to complete a task for quantitative testing and determine the cognitive load of that task. I am currently working on a UX Research certification with NN/g by completing the following courses: User Interview, Usability Testing, and Storytelling to Present UX Work. I am also Certified Usability Analyst 2007-1318 from Human Factors International.

UCRS e-Learning DVD

requirements | task & audience analysis | information architecture |ux standards | accessibility evaluation | usability testing

As a member of the Compuware team to design and develop a e-learning DVD for the State of OH, I did a lot of work on the user and task analysis for this project. Since the primary users of this DVD, according to the project sponsor, were women over the age of 50, I did a lot of research on accessibility for this project. This information, along with online learning and reading guidelines I found, became basis for the UX standards. I also did usability testing for this project with list of design recommendations.

"Theresa was recently on a cutting edge project that I was overseeing. She always made an excellent effort at presenting herself in a professional manner. Theresa took her part on the team very seriously and continually offered suggestions that were helpful. She was a willing participant in any activity that would make the project better. She showed herself to be adaptable and to learning new things outside of her comfort zone. Theresa is an excellent User Interface Designer. She is also very quick at absorbing new ideas and working with them to enhance and improve both herself and those around her."  Chad Moore, Statewide Coordinator, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services

At AARH, I am currently analyizing user interview results for a proposed website redesign. I also building a usability testing prototype in Figma.

ETS

Non-NAEP UX Research:

At ETS, I found that the assessment text used was confusing 4th graders across multiple studies. I created video clips to illustrate the students' confusion and create stakeholder empathy. I advocated for reducing the readability level of the text used in assessments so that it is more appropriate for 4th graders. I was successful in getting stakeholder buy-in and some 4th grader assessment answer formats were changed.

McKesson Reimbursement Tool

interaction & ux design | user interviews | remote, unmoderated usability testing

I contracted at McKesson to oversee the UX and research for the new WISE reimbursement tool (dashboard). I worked with one of the product managers to interview some of users. McKesson had brought in a UI developer to create wireframes using Figma and help with development. I worked with him to make his wireframes more usable. Since users cannot enter information into Figma prototypes, I created an Axure prototype for a remote, unmoderated  usbilitly test.  I also created a discussion guide for the test and analyzed and summarized the testing results.

"It was a pleasure working with you. I learned a lot from you over the last few months and I appreciate your patience with us on this project." Jarrod Brown, Director, Systems

"I contracted at McKesson with Theresa, where I worked on the UX/UI team. I was impressed by the informative reports she gave of the user testing giving an accurate user-product impression. The data gave insights on the next steps to improve the reimbursement tool. She collaborated in UX patterns with good options to solve UX issues. The reports that she presented were clear and informative. Theresas skills in user experience would be a great asset to any team." Alexander Bishard,  Frontend UI Development

Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation

ux research | prototype | usability testing | focus group moderation | tree testing | card sort | accessibility testing | summary reports

At BWC, I assisted in the BWC website redesign.

The first thing I wanted to do was to learn more about the users. So, I conducted user interviews and spent time observing and interviewing CSRs.

We conducted several navigation tree tests.

Using this information, I created a prototype using neuro web design principles of limited attention, closure, least effort, connecting emotionally, color, shapes, predictability, and simplicity.

Text strings on the prototypes are not rendering correctly in most browsers. I no longer have access to employer-provided Axure software to correct this issue.

Wireframes updated with information gathered from usability testing and accessibility review. I also started documenting for the website style guide. Text strings on the prototypes are not rendering correctly in most browsers. I no longer have access to employer-provided Axure software to correct this issue.

The State of Ohio Administrative Policy for Website Accessibility (IT-09) states that State agencies shall establish a website accessibility strategy that applies to the design, development, implementation and maintenance of public-facing agency web pages.

Readability is about making content clear and easy to understand. In relation to a website, focusing on readability increases the chance that your target audience will read and understand your website content.

InsightETE - Business Monitoring Web Application

requirements | personas | information architecture |ux design | accessibility evaluation | usability testing

I designed a dashboard for a business monitoring application. One of their clients was very unhappy with the UI. I have found that unhappy clients tend to give you the best information and are grateful that you listen to them. I did some paper prototype usability testing with this client to finalize the UI for the application. Very shortly after I finalized the UI, the client renewed their subscription for the service.

One of the final screens

"Theresa is perhaps one of the most professional and hard-working employees I have ever been associated with. Her commitment to detail and in providing quality documents and presentations is second to none.

More specifically, her tasks included: Development and review of dashboard screens, web pages, proposals, etc; Usability Testing (interviewing some of our key customers); Establishing usability standards and practices for the key software applications; Participating in company strategy sessions.

Above all, Theresa is a dedicated team player. She always looked out for the best interest of our Company and our customers.  Theresa is a pleasure to work with and we, along with our customers really appreciated her enthusiasm and positive outlook." Richard C. Wheeless, President & CEO, InsightETE

Nationwide InQuira Application Redesign

At Nationwide, I assisted in the InQuira redesign.

"I am very appreciative of the insight that you have brought to not only myself but to some of the team as well. I know that we are far, very far, from where we need to be. I feel though that the little time that you have been able to spend working with us will have long lasting impacts. For that I am truly grateful." Nick Nopoulos, MBL, CPC, Manager, Process Management, Nationwide

"Thank you for your good work and patience as we worked through this process. You have put us in a good place to repeat this for other business units as we go forward." Mark Cottrill, Director, MBA, Customer Service & Sales Solutions, Nationwide
