Introductory comments

Every time I have a new article come out in my web column, The ABCs of Web Design, I get lots of email. Of course I love that! I find it very helpful when people email to me and ask me specific questions about software I recommend or techniques to help them do their job better. And I always email back! So keep all the emails coming!

Question of the month

Question from Andrew White: Now that my website is “live” what’s the most cost effective thing I can do to market it?

Answer: Great question! There are a lot of things you can do to market your web site. First thing I would suggest is decide on how much you want to spend marketing your site. After you arrive at a budget, you would need to determine what you can do with the money you have. If you want to buy ad space to promote your site, look into where your target audience would most likely see your ad. For example, I just completed SEO work for ebooks targeted to college students and their parents. The site owner is looking into purchasing ad space in college newspapers.

Now there are a lot of things that you can do yourself and for free – like search engine optimization (SEO), linking with other sites (and this one really works!), and promoting your site in newsgroups. Also don’t forget about using newsletters (like this one) to promote your services and your web site.
