I am getting a lot of contact work lately. And with it comes a lot of
questions about SEO. So, onto the question.
Question of the month
Question: I am going to do some limited SEO work for a client. She
wants me to research keywords for three web sites and write the META tags for
each site and no site content will be rewritten to include keywords. Is this a
good approach to get search engine rankings?
Answer: In my experience, the best way to get rankings is to combine META
tags with site text rewritten to include keywords. Over time, META tags were
severely abused so search engines started given visible site text more weight.
Today, META tags are fairly irrelevant to most of the larger search engines
though some of the smaller ones still use them. As I have stated in many of my
SEO articles, the best way to get rankings is with your page’s Title tag and
site text.

I am also the chapter leader of
DigitalEve Columbus and I recently redesigned the web site. One of the
developers who was helping me with a RSVP page also put all the site pages in to
ASP. The rankings for the HTML pages were very high. So I am interested to see
if the pages will keep their rankings in ASP. I will let you know. Feel free to
