My apologies for missing February’s newsletter. I had a pretty bad computer virus that brought my computer to its knees and had to be rebuilt. Also, if you have signed up for this newsletter since 9/04, please send me your email address again!

Question: This month’s question comes from a potential client. Todd asks: “Do I really need web site statistics software for you to redesign my web site?

Answer: Great Question! If you want to accurately measure what is really happening on your web site, then yes you do need web site statistics software. For example, if you have a retail web site, and you notice that users are dropping off on the first of your ordering pages, then it is a pretty safe bet that something on that page needs to be corrected so you can get more orders. If you have a lead-generation site and notice most people drop off of your contact form, then you need to take a closer look at your form. How can you tell if your site traffic is increasing if you can’t measure it? How can you tell if which search engine is sending you more traffic if you can check it? You can’t determine if you site is a success or not unless you can accurately measure it.
