****Introductory comments****

I attended the Wizard of Web training in Austin, TX a couple weeks ago and it was awesome! I learned so much about web site conversion and I have already started to put it to good use with some clients I just started working with. This month, I thought I would share some info I learned on web site analytics.

Also, if you have signed up for this newsletter since 9/04, please send me your email address again!

****Question of the month****

Question: What web site pages should you track for web site conversion?

Answer: I am going to combine some of the items I think are important and some of the information important to web site conversion. So here is a list of the things on your analytic program that you should track for your site:

  • Search engines
  • Search engine phrases
  • Top search engine phrases by search engine
  • Spider reports (when they are coming)
  • Top entry pages
  • Single access pages
  • Top exit pages
  • Paths through site

In going through your web site analytics for search engines, you want to see if the phrases that you think people are searching for are actually producing traffic and which engines are sending the most traffic. For the top exit pages, these are the pages that you want to target to tweak for a better conversion rate. With the paths through your site, you want to see if these are the paths that you anticipated your users to take or do you see new ones and where are the exiting your site on that path. That exit page is a good one to tweak for better conversion rates.

****Wrap up****

I am hoping to take another web site conversion class in the fall since the one I just attended was so fantastic. It was great to finally meet Brian and Jeff Eisenberg since I have such a big fan of theirs for several years. Feel free to email me any questions! Thanks for reading my newsletter.

"Theresa - I just wanted to let you know how much my business has increased since you took over my website. What I am delighted about is that I am receiving good, solid business leads from my target audience. How do you do that?" Sylvia Watson, President, Healing Environments with Feng Shui
"I wanted to let you know that our rankings on Google are now in the top 3, on almost every search we've conducted (most of them are in 1st place)—without using quotes to call out specific phrases. This is in searches that result in over 20,000 pages per search. We're backlogged with orders until late June, possibly July. You ROCK!” Diana Holycross, Tiles with Style."
