With the start of the New Year, I am reading a lot of the SEO predictions that everyone is putting out and keeping up to date on the SEO forums that I frequent. I have been asked how I stay up on all the SEO goings-on, all the sites that I go to for information are listed on the resources page of this site. On to the question...

Question of the month

Question: Theresa, Since the success of keywords is a trial and error thing, how am I going to know if the spiders can successfully find my site unless I re-register prior to getting all my keywords worked out? So, shouldn't I re-register my web site now instead of later? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding how this spider thing works…Thanks, Andrew White

Answer: Great Question. I would not recommend registering with search engines until you have all of your keywords and keyword site text in order. Most of the time it could take a week or more (you can see this specific info on the search engines) for the spiders to come out to your site but you never really know, so I would say that it is to be better safe than sorry with the spiders and ensure you have all your SEO endeavors in order before registering. You can usually tell when spiders reference your site by looking at your server reports or logs. My hosting company clearly lists when a search engine spider comes a-calling to my site and where it is from. Right now they are coming about once a month to crawl my site. If you don’t see this info on your reports, ask your hosting company about including it. Thanks and good luck!
