Introductory comments
I am very excited to be asked to speak again for Northeast Ohio STC chapter
in September. I will be the only speaker this time and my topic will be web
site conversion and SEO.
Because of the SEO optimization I have done to all my article pages, they
continue to pull in more search engine traffic than any other page on my
site. It surprises me that the two top articles people click on are “Dealing
with Job Loss” and “What is a Web Designer?” And these two are top across
all search engines with Google bringing in the most traffic to my site. Both
articles are several years old. And they still bring me questions like the
one I received last week:

Question of the month
Question: “Hello there Theresa I was on the web today and ran across
an article you wrote way back in December of 2000 in intercom. My question for
you is how did you go about setting up you web team? The reason why I ask is
because we are now in the process of doing this and IT people want to be
designers and designers want to program. I want to separate this by setting up
procedures so they do what they are good at and not straying into design or
programming. I was wondering if you had some ideas form your own experience.
Thanks,” Christopher Faust
Answer: Hi Chris. Thanks for reading my article. I would set up clear cut
job duties and procedures for both the designers and programmers. A lot of
people want to play with other technology just so they can add it to their
resume. I would also mention the job duties when you interview candidates. If
your people want to do any design or programming, then tell then it must be done
on their own time. You may have to police some of procedures for a while.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, we all have had to learn to multi-task and
you are seeing the results of that. You may also pose your question to any local
professional groups like COMMUG for more opinions. Good Luck!

Wrap up
My apologies for taking a month off from my newsletter – my brother’s cancer
is back and it is terminal. The doctors are giving him between 6 months and 1
year to live so I have been trying to spend a lot of time with him. I have also
been doing a lot of rewriting to my recent Intercom articles due to my editor.
One more article to edit and then I can concentrate on writing my presentation
for the September STC meeting! Feel free to email me any questions! Thanks
for reading my newsletter.

"Theresa - I just wanted to let you know how much my business has increased since you took over my website. What I am delighted about is that I am
receiving good, solid business leads from my target audience. How do you do that?" Sylvia Watson, President, Healing Environments with Feng Shui |
"I wanted to let you know that our rankings on Google are now in the top 3, on almost every search we've conducted (most of them are in 1st place)—without using quotes to call out specific phrases.
This is in searches that result in over 20,000 pages per search. We're backlogged with orders until late June, possibly July. You ROCK!” Diana Holycross, Tiles with Style."
